Best Ways to Boost Your Metabolism

Worried about getting older and your metabolism slowing down?  I am, but have some good news for you!  Metabolism is actually the process your body uses to convert food consumed into energy.  The energy your body doesn't use is stored as fat.  This means that metabolism is highly linked to physical activity and less likely to age.  Your metabolism generally slows down an average of 5% every 10 years after turning 40.  The reason for this is because muscle loss occurs as you age.  The less muscle you have, the less calories you will burn, and coincidentally your metabolism slows down.  I find it fascinating that 1 pound of muscle burns calories 9 times faster then 1 pound of body fat! 

The first thing you must do to boost metabolism is weight train and intense exercise!  You need to keep and build muscle and burn calories.  This is very straight forward, but there are also several other tips and tricks that you may not know about to keep your metabolism working hard, keep your energy-producing system working efficiently and getting you closer to your health and fitness goals.

1.) Drink Green Tea
Green tea has compounds called phenols which have amazing thermogenic properties.  You can also buy green tea pills that will boost your metabolism.

2.) Drink Coffee
Coffee is a stimulant that contains caffeine.  It can boost energy expenditure and increase your metabolism.

3.) Add Ginger
Ginger aids in digestion and increases body temperature and metabolic rates as much as 20 percent after eating.

4.) Use Black Pepper Instead of Salt
Reach for black pepper instead of salt which contains the alkaloid piperine.  Piperine helps speed up your metabolism.

5.) Eat Beans
Beans are full of soluble fiber to help lower insulin levels so you store less fat and also feel fuller.  If you eat 2 cups of beans, you will fill your recommended daily fiber intake of 25 grams.

6.) Drink Ice Water
By drinking ice water, you will burn more calories to bring your body temperature back to normal. Eight glasses of ice water a day burns 70 calories!

7.) Eat Chili Peppers
Peppers contain capsaicin, which curbs your appetite.  They also raise your body temperature boosting your metabolism.

8.) Vinegar
Vinegar slows the absorption of carbohydrates and prevents sudden surges in your blood sugar.  It slows the passage of food through your stomach, keeping you fuller for longer.

9.) Add Cinnamon
Cinnamon also slows the passage of food through your stomach.  It also decreases your blood sugar levels by stimulating glucose metabolism.

10.) Take Raspberry Keytone Pills
Raspberry keytones control adiponectin, a protein used by the body to regulate metabolism.  By taking raspberry ketone you will cause the fat within your cells to get broken up more effectively, helping your body burn fat faster.

11.) Take Vitamin B Supplements
If you are not getting enough vitamin B, your body may produce fewer red blood cells which causes fatigue an a decrease in  your metabolism.
